This is the most tragic flood Spain has experienced in recent years. Flash floods have struck the provinces of Valencia and Andalusia, and the disaster has also affected Catalonia, a popular tourist destination.
According to official data, 211 people have died, but these numbers may not be final. While the Spanish authorities are doing everything possible to deal with the aftermath of the storms, questions arise about the safety of tourists travelling to these areas. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has already addressed the matter.
The situation is most difficult in Valencia, where local authorities and volunteers have been working intensively for several days to clear the effects of the catastrophe. Streets, basements, and ground floors of houses are being cleared of mud and post-flood debris.
What about passenger flights to these areas? Despite the difficult conditions, flights to Malaga or Valencia operate according to schedule.
Local guides assure that cities like Alicante are trying to function normally, with pubs and restaurants in operation.
Despite this, local authorities are appealing to tourists for caution and to limit road travel in Valencia and the surrounding areas.
