In just eight hours, the amount of rainfall received was equivalent to that typically recorded over an entire year. The downpours have caused cities to flood, destroyed buildings and bridges, and overturned street vehicles. Among the disaster's victims was José Castillejo, a former player for Valencia, Paterna, CD Buñol, Recam Colón, and Torre Levante. Valencia issued a statement saying the player, who once played for their youth teams, died due to the disaster.
The Eldense club, where Castillejo played between January and August 2016, also expressed condolences, sharing sorrow over the former player's death and conveying sympathy to his family and friends.
Spain’s Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez, underscored the severity of the situation, warning residents that the crisis is ongoing and many people remain without access to water and electricity. Numerous individuals have been stranded due to damaged vehicles or blocked roads.
