There's a surge in reviving iconic productions. We have already seen the release of "Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice," the sequel to "Beetlejuice." You can watch the new version of the legendary "Gladiator" in cinemas across our country. In search of a production to refresh, Prime Video is revisiting the "Tomb Raider" series. A new actress will take the lead, and her name is being reported by nearly all industry portals.
Who will play the new Lara Croft?
Sophie Turner, a 28-year-old Emmy-nominated actress known for her role as Sansa Stark in "Game of Thrones," is in negotiations to take on the role of Lara Croft in the new "Tomb Raider" series from Prime Video.
According to reports from Deadline, Turner was one of the actresses considered for the iconic archaeologist and adventurer role, alongside Lucy Boynton. It now appears that Turner will take the lead role in Amazon's production.
The series is being developed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, known for "Fleabag," who delivered the first script a few months ago. Prime Video ordered the series in May after signing a three-year contract worth approximately £48 million with Waller-Bridge.
The new production will follow the adventures of the world-renowned archaeologist Lara Croft, based on the popular "Tomb Raider" game series that debuted in 1996. Amazon has struck a deal with Crystal Dynamics, the publisher owning the brand rights, which also includes potential film projects.
Crystal Dynamics and Amazon are also working on a new game in the series, though details are not yet known. Waller-Bridge expressed her excitement about the project, saying, "If I could tell my teenage self this was happening I think she’d explode. Tomb Raider has been a huge part of my life and I feel incredibly privileged to be bringing it to television with such passionate collaborators."
Lara Croft was previously portrayed on the big screen by Angelina Jolie in the films from 2001 and 2003, and by Alicia Vikander in 2018. Despite mixed box office results, the character remains one of the most recognisable in pop culture.
