Slovak Defence Minister pushes for repatriation of Ukrainians amid war

During a discussion on Ta3 television, Kaliniak mentioned the summit in Paris, which President Emmanuel Macron organized at the end of February. He noted that Western countries appear to concentrate on sending their troops to Ukraine instead of paying attention to the situation of refugees from Ukraine who have found refuge in various countries, including Slovakia.

Kaliniak highlighted that such refugees are individuals subject to Ukrainian mobilisation law. If they returned to their country, they could provide the most significant support to the Ukrainian military.

About 300,000 Ukrainians

The leader of the Slovak Defence Ministry observed that roughly 300,000 Ukrainians are in this situation. "We should certainly allow these young Ukrainians, who are subject to mobilisation, that is, not the younger or older ones, not children, mothers, and the rest, but those who can serve in the army," Kaliniak stated.

Martin Dubeci, a deputy from the opposition party Progressive Slovakia (PS), who was also part of this television debate, countered the defence minister by stating that Ukraine does not require these men to return. Instead, the country seeks ammunition.
