Raspberries, plums, apricots, and pears are just a few summer fruits we buy in abundance during the season. Most of us keep them on the countertop or platter to eat anytime. High temperatures accelerate the decomposition of fruits, which attracts fruit flies.
These small and harmless insects do not carry any diseases, but no one wants them in their home. How to get rid of them? You don't need any chemical sprays for this. All you need to do is mix a few ingredients.
Where do fruit flies come from?
The presence of fruit flies in the house has nothing to do with clutter or lack of hygiene. Insects enter through windows and doors and then lay eggs that are invisible to the human eye. The scent of fresh fruits, vegetables, and fruit preserves, such as juices, jams, or wine attracts them.
Just two fruit flies in the house can lead to an actual invasion. If you see them, you need to start acting as quickly as possible. How to get rid of unwanted insects? Prepare a simple trap with ingredients you most likely already have at home.
Mix two ingredients to get rid of fruit flies
You need balsamic vinegar and washing-up liquid. Take a small jar. Pour 15ml of balsamic vinegar into it, then add 15ml of washing-up liquid. Do not mix the solution. Cover the jar with cling film or baking paper. Secure it with a rubber band and poke it with a knife in several places.
Place the prepared trap where the fruit flies are. The scent of the vinegar will attract the insects to the jar, and when they try to taste it, they will drown in the thick washing-up liquid. The cover will prevent them from escaping.
Don't have balsamic vinegar at home? No problem. You can replace it with apple cider vinegar. After just one night, you will notice many dead insects in the jar. After getting rid of the flies, remember to store vegetables and fruits and preserve them properly. Try to disinfect kitchen countertops as often as possible. Follow these rules throughout the summer, and you'll forget about fruit flies.
