In recent days, just as in Poland, the residents of the Czech Republic have been battling the effects of a massive flood that has hit the northern part of their country. The situation with our southern neighbours is serious, as many towns and villages have been flooded. Consequently, over 10,000 people have already been evacuated.
The flood has particularly affected Opava, which has a population of 60,000. As reported by Czech media over the weekend, the situation in nearby rivers reached an "extreme level," resulting in the almost complete flooding of the Katerinky estate.
Several blocks of flats and many cars are underwater. However, some managed to save a few. In some cases, this required particular ingenuity and nerves of steel.
The Czechs are saving their belongings from the effects of the flood
In one of the photos from flooded Opava, you can see how the owners of some cars used a hill that had previously served children for sledding to save their vehicles from the flood. In the photograph, you can clearly see about six cars parked on the small hill.
At the same time, everything around the hill is flooded with water. Although there are humorous comments under the photo on the internet, the situation in Opava is extremely difficult. In the last two days, several thousand people have been evacuated from the town, and the value of the damage caused will certainly amount to at least tens of millions of pounds.
