The winter months can be challenging for our household budget due to high heating bills. However, there are straightforward ways to save that do not require large financial investments.

Among them is a trick shared by a TikTok user who posts various "life hacks" in videos. The video with the radiator and the tip on how to save on heating has already been watched by over 75,000 platform users.

The aluminium foil trick

The whole trick involves buying a very cheap material covered with aluminium foil. You just need to cut it to the appropriate size and place it behind the radiator. This simple method helps insulate the walls, retaining heat in the rooms and minimising its loss. One internet user even commented that she has been using this method since the 1980s.

The expert advises on how to avoid high heating costs

What else can you do to save on heating? Laura Court-Jones, an expert from "The Sun," shared her advice. "It sounds simple, but fully turning off appliances and lights that are not in use can reduce your energy bills, especially in winter." She also recommends investing in smart meters. "Smart meters are a great way to keep control over your energy use, largely because they allow you to see where and when your gas and electricity is being used," she stated.

Laura Court-Jones also noted that it's worth exploring the offers available on the market. "No matter how happy you are with your current energy supplier, they may not be providing you with the best deals, especially if you've let a fixed-rate contract expire without arranging a new one. If you haven't browsed any alternative tariffs lately, then you may not be aware that there are better options out there," the expert from "The Sun" was quoted as saying.
