Seatbelts: Not just for safety, but a lifesaving escape tool

Seatbelts are undoubtedly one of the greatest inventions in humankind's history, having saved thousands of lives during accidents. Yet, not everyone knows they can also be pivotal in escaping a vehicle during an emergency.

Following an accident, it's common for car doors to suffer such damage that they become impossible to open from the inside. In these scenarios, opening the doors from the outside becomes more accessible with the aid of a solid leverage point. With help from another individual, you might even manage to tear them off, a technique sometimes employed by firefighters.

However, removing the doors is not always feasible, and time is of the essence in a crisis. Targeting the most vulnerable part, typically the windows, is advisable. While a hammer is an ideal tool for breaking them, it's unlikely that many people carry one in their vehicle. This is where the seatbelt, or rather its buckle, proves invaluable.

We insert a metal component into the lock, also called the latch receptacle, to secure the belts. It's important to highlight that it is exceptionally sturdy, crafted from thick steel sheets and quite comfortable to grasp.

This part can be utilized to shatter a side window, thereby enabling escape from the vehicle. In times of emergency, it's a detail worth bearing in mind, though we hope it's never necessary to put this knowledge into practice.
