The subject of using fireworks stirs emotions worldwide. Activists and environmentalists regularly highlight the negative impact of loud fireworks during various events and on New Year's Eve on the environment and animals, not just domesticated ones. On Thursday, 14th November, this issue was again brought into the spotlight. This time, it was due to the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland, which posted a petition on its website.
It is widely known that fireworks, which are exceedingly loud, adversely affect animals each year. Their noise impacts both household pets and those living in forests or zoos. This is why activists are doing everything they can to tighten regulations on the use of fireworks in most countries worldwide. Currently, the discussion is happening in the United Kingdom, specifically in Scotland.
Petition to tighten fireworks regulations
Very sad news comes from the Scottish capital, Edinburgh. It has transpired that a three-month-old panda lost its life at the zoo there. Veterinarians handling the case stated that the cause of death was severe stress caused by the noise from fireworks, which Scots used on Bonfire Night. A petition concerning fireworks was posted on the official website of the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland, calling on the British government to tighten regulations regarding their use.
The petition, available on the aforementioned site, has already been signed by over a million people. Activists are eager for a complete ban on fireworks to be enforced throughout the United Kingdom. Currently, the regulations state that fireworks cannot be set off between 23:00 and 07:00, except on New Year's Eve, Diwali, and the Lunar New Year.
