On Sunday, the German Chancellor informed at a joint press conference with the Israeli Prime Minister that he had discussed with Benjamin Netanyahu the need to provide comprehensive humanitarian aid to the population in the Gaza Strip.
"We cannot stand by and watch Palestinians threatened with hunger death. That's not us. That's not what we're about," Scholz said in a statement to the media during his visit to Jerusalem.
Netanyahu assures: we will enable their departure
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that Israel will not leave civilians trapped in Rafah when his forces begin the long-awaited attack on the southern Gaza city, where over a million Palestinians have taken refuge.
"This is not something we will do by keeping the population locked up. In fact, we will do quite the opposite, we will enable their departure," said during the press conference in Jerusalem with Chancellor Scholz.
The German Chancellor stated that the Israeli attack on Rafah "will greatly complicate" achieving peace in the region.
