Salmon rolls: The irresistible omega-3 party delight

Salmon rolls always look delightful on the platter, but they disappear very quickly. They are a favourite at New Year's Eve house parties, and my guests adore them. This year, I'm preparing them with different fillings than usual. We'll be able to decide which ones are better.

Small snacks are an essential part of a New Year's Eve party. We eat them quickly, allowing us to continue enjoying ourselves. You also don't need to spend long hours preparing them. The best example is salmon rolls: delicious, easy, and almost instant.

Dieticians recommend it

Smoked salmon is very popular, and its taste and aroma make it a popular snack. The richness of omega-3s is one of the most important advantages of this fish. The polyunsaturated fatty acids found in salmon are essential for our health because the body cannot produce them on its own. Dieticians emphasise that when fish are not lacking in daily meals, the risk of cardiovascular diseases decreases. Such a diet also supports mental health.

The delicate filling is impressive

Smoked salmon, with its rich flavour and characteristic aroma, is often chosen for appetisers. It's excellent in salads, sandwich spreads, or sushi. It also tastes good on small sandwiches with just a bit of dill and lemon. There are many ideas for it, but one of the best is rolls. The combination of rather salty fish with a delicate filling is always impressive. It's worth using cream cheese for the filling, as you only need to season it. They have a delicate flavour and the right consistency. Salmon rolls are best served with lemon, which enhances and sharpens their flavour.

There are many ideas

Preparing these rolls with filling is so simple that I'm making two types of filling this year. Not everyone likes the taste of horseradish so that the second version will be milder - with chives and radish. Many other additions go well with cream cheese and salmon. You can also use garlic, parsley, olives, or capers.

Salmon rolls

Ingredients:

  • 16 slices of smoked salmon,
  • About 300 grams of cream cheese,
  • 2 teaspoons of grated horseradish,
  • 2 teaspoons of chopped dill,
  • 2 teaspoons of chopped chives,
  • 2 radishes or a small piece of fresh cucumber,
  • Salt and pepper for the taste.

For serving:

  • Half a lemon,
  • Rocket leaves.

Preparation method:

  1. Divide the cream cheese in half and transfer into two bowls.
  2. Add horseradish and dill to one, season with salt and pepper, and mix. Add grated radishes or cucumber, chives, and spices to the second portion of cheese. Mix to create a uniform mixture.
  3. Lay out the salmon slices on a board. Apply the horseradish filling to one half and the chive filling to the other.
  4. Place a portion of cheese with additions on each slice and roll into a roll.
  5. Secure the ready rolls with a toothpick and place them on a platter. Put them in the fridge to cool.
  6. Serve them with lemon slices and rocket leaves.
