Palestinian authority halts Al Jazeera over internal meddling
The Palestinian Authority has suspended the operations of the Al Jazeera channel, accusing it of interfering in its internal affairs. This decision is in response to allegations of misinformation and incitement to rebellion, coinciding with the forthcoming inauguration of Donald Trump as the President of the USA.
The Palestinian Authority announced the suspension of the Qatari broadcaster Al Jazeera, accusing it of meddling in Palestinian internal affairs. This decision was made on Wednesday evening. It includes halting both the broadcasting and the activities of the station's journalists.
The decision by the Palestinian Authority is a reaction to allegations of misinformation and incitement to rebellion attributed to Al Jazeera. The official Palestinian news agency WAFA reported that the suspension would continue until the station's legal status is resolved.
Al Jazeera criticised the authorities' decision, claiming it is an attempt to obscure the conflict over control of the West Bank, where Tel Aviv, in contravention of international law, is settling its Israeli citizens.
Preparations for Trump's inauguration
In recent weeks, the Palestinian Authority forces have been conducting operations against Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad militias, who purport to be more effective in combating Israel than the PA.
Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas demands that these militants disarm and relinquish their weapons to the authorities. - There will be no tolerance for this rogue group that operates outside the law - said General Anwar Rajab, spokesperson for the Palestinian security forces.
The Palestinian Authority is intensifying efforts to neutralise Palestinian militants ahead of Donald Trump's inauguration. The aim, according to the AFP agency, is to demonstrate the capability to control the Gaza Strip following the end of the conflict with Israel. Approximately 10 people have already perished as a result of these clashes.
