In the government database of legal acts, a project of one of the decisions, which should be consulted with the general staff, was published. It is under this document that Gen. Poznikhir signed as the person currently leading this institution. It seems unlikely that the situation was caused by Gerasimov's leave, as his brief absence would most likely have ended by the time the content of the document was agreed upon - assessed opposition journalists.
As emphasized by Mozhem Ob'yasnit', the last official announcements about Gerasimov's activity date back to February 26, more than two weeks ago.
Not the first "dismissal" of Gerasimov
Over the past year, throughout the Kremlin's invasion of Ukraine, the media have repeatedly speculated about Gerasimov being removed from his position, and even about his death. Russian authorities have denied these reports.
Since 2016, Gen. Poznikhir has been serving as the first deputy chief of the Main Operational Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation. In February of this year, Vladimir Putin promoted him from the rank of lieutenant general to colonel general - reported by the Ukrainian portal, Focus.
