Russian Mi‑28 helicopter crashes in Kaluga region, crew perishes
A Russian military helicopter, Mi-28, crashed on Thursday in the Kaluga region. According to local authorities, the crew perished.
The crash occurred in the Zhizdra area of the Kaluga region, southwest of Moscow. Reuters, citing the Russian Ministry of Defence, reports that a technical malfunction was likely the cause.
The region's governor, Vladislav Shapsha, reported that task forces are working on the site.
It was not disclosed how many people were on board. The Mi-28 attack helicopter usually has a two-person crew.
The Russian Ministry of Defence also stated that the crash occurred over an uninhabited area and that there was no damage to the ground.
Anton Herashchenko, an advisor to the head of the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs, reports on the X platform that the cost of the machine lost by Russia is around £14 million.
Russian drones destroyed
Meanwhile, Ukrainian media reported the discovery of the wreckage of a Russian drone, which was used in an attack during the night of 19 to 20 July. "Pictures of the wreckage reveal that it differs significantly from the Shahed-136 drone, commonly used by the Russians for attacks on Ukraine," reports the Ukrainian Pravda portal.
Additionally, the machine's flight was unusual, with it allegedly flying at an altitude of just 20-30 metres. The wreckage was described in official reports as an "unidentified type of unmanned aerial vehicle."
