Russians have dealt Ukrainians a painful blow by capturing two localities, Urozhaine and Staromajorske. They are approaching a key supply route.

Everything suggests that Russian forces have captured Urozhaine, a locality recaptured by Ukraine last summer. As the "New York Times" reported, they are approaching a key supply route in the east.

Ukrainians repelled the attack for a long time. Russian forces entered Urozhaine over the weekend, which was a blow to the hard-won Ukrainian victories.

A similar situation pertains to the locality of Staromajorske. The armed forces of Ukraine had to retreat. Capturing the village took the Russians three months.

Ukraine hopes that weapons and ammunition recently delivered by Western allies will help stop the Russians. This has already happened in the northeast, where reinforced Ukrainian defences managed to halt a Russian offensive advancing on Kharkiv, Ukraine's second-largest city.

52 attacks in one day

On Monday, it was reported that Russian forces are also fiercely attacking the city of Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region in eastern Ukraine. Within one day, there were 52 attacks – reported the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

"In the Pokrovsk direction, our defenders repelled 52 assault actions (…)” – stated in the daily update on the frontline situation. In total, the occupiers attacked 12 localities there.

"With air support, the Russians tried to displace our units from their positions. The highest concentration of enemy attacks took place near the localities of Zhelanne and Novooleksandrivka," reported the General Staff on Facebook.
