Many of the reports provided by Russian media or government representatives are elements of propaganda. Such reports are part of the information warfare conducted by the Russian Federation.
Aleksey Chepa, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma's International Affairs Committee, announced a change in tactics in response to Ukrainian missile attacks. "Of course, we will change tactics (...). We will be forced to conduct more attacks, not only on military targets but also on infrastructure facilities, which will significantly complicate life in Kyiv," Chepa said in an interview with Lenta.
Chepa emphasised that the Russian army is prepared for such bombardments. "First of all, we will shoot them down (the missiles),” he stated. “Of course, there is a certain percentage that, if attacks continue, will reach a specific target. We will fight with that (...) We know all these missiles; we have means to counter these projectiles, and we will strike at them," he announced.
Chepa added that commanders conducting military operations as part of the "special military operation" (a propagandistic name for the war in Ukraine used by Russians) should expand the list of targets in airstrikes. "We will also make all political efforts to stop these attacks deep into Russian territory," he argued.
Ukrainian missile attacks
On Wednesday, for the first time, Ukrainian armed forces launched British cruise missiles towards military targets in Russia, as reported by Bloomberg. Bloomberg reminds us that the attacks using Storm Shadow missiles were sanctioned in response to Russia sending North Korean troops into the war against Ukraine. According to the agency's source, the UK government considered this move an escalation of the conflict.
Meanwhile, on Monday, the BBC, citing the Russian Ministry of Defence, reported that Ukraine launched long-range missiles supplied by the United States towards Russia. The attack occurred in the Bryansk region. The strike took place shortly after Washington signalled that Ukraine had permission to launch ATACMS towards Russia.
As stated in the release, Russia allegedly shot down five missiles and damaged one. As a result of the destruction, debris reportedly caused a fire at a military centre in that region.
