Reviving your sluggish Android: how clearing cache memory can breathe new life into smartphones

Smartphones equipped with Android software tend to accumulate so-called cache memory, which slows down the operating system. A sluggish phone begins to grind our gears, and in critical situations, we consider replacing the device. But before you do that, try clearing the cache memory. Your smartphone might start to function as good as new!

Phone lagging? It could be a memory issue

Every smartphone houses two types of memory: cache and backup. The former stores all the data from apps saved as they are used. It enables applications on the phone to function without constantly requesting permissions to use resources. Without it, using programs would be much more cumbersome.

Backup memory comprises the entire operating system, photos, or different kinds of files. Though both are essential, sometimes the surplus of data can bog down the phone, resulting in a sluggish device. The only solution is to clear the cache memory. A few clicks are sufficient to eliminate the problem.

Clearing cache memory in Android, how is it done?

If you're an Android user, this guide is for you. Cache memory is necessary, but hoarding excessive data often causes system overload. Sometimes, an app long uninstalled leaves behind remnants of its data. To clear them out, just follow the instructions below.

Is your phone stalling? Begin by navigating to your phone settings. Look for the tabs "Applications" or "Memory and Applications". Once you spot them, click on the chosen application you wish to remove from memory. Then, select the command "Clear cache memory", repeating the process for each app. It's important to remember that deleting data will require the app to request a re-login. Autocomplete of text fields, one of the cache memory functions, might not be possible. If you rely on such functions, it's better to avoid clearing memory of frequently used apps.

What if the phone continues to freeze?

Releasing memory should enhance the operating system's performance and smooth the phone's operation. However, if the smartphone remains slow, more drastic steps may be necessary. Start by deleting redundant photos, videos, documents, or unused apps. If that fails to work, consider resetting your phone to factory settings. The smartphone will undergo a total reset, which means deletion of all apps and photos. The phone will literally seem brand new. If you value your files, be sure to back them up on cloud storage or another device.
