Trump hints at easing Russia sanctions amid renewed dialogue
Sanctions against Russia will be lifted "at some point," said US President Donald Trump during a press conference at the White House on Wednesday.
Trump's comments came after the resumption of contacts between the USA and Russia, including discussions about the potential end of the conflict in Ukraine or the rebuilding of mutual relations.
"No, we haven't lifted any sanctions on anybody… I guess it will be at some point, but right now, we haven't agreed to lift sanctions on anybody," said Trump.
The American president did not specify which sanctions might be lifted.
Meeting in Istanbul
On Thursday, talks between US and Russian delegations took place in Istanbul. They lasted over six hours. The meeting was focused on rebuilding diplomatic relations.
As reported by Reuters, citing Russian media, no press statements were made following the meeting.
