Rediscovering childhood: Homemade sesame snaps make sweet comeback
Admit it—just looking at the picture made you taste the distinctive flavour of these bars. Even though sesame snaps have fallen somewhat out of favour today, with the vast availability of various sweets and the endless creativity of their producers, this recipe might still be handy!
Today, we want to take you on a journey back in time, thanks to the magic of food. What food product reminds you most of your childhood? Is it the taste of a chocolate bar? Or perhaps the popular crisps from back then? Those examples resonate in our case, too, but the one treat that almost literally transports us back in time is sesame snaps. These classic bars were once well-known and loved, and we bet they can still be adored today. Just give them a chance... once more.
How do you prepare these classic treats at home? It's not difficult at all. Stock up on a few essential ingredients, grab a pan, show a bit of patience, and you're done. Serve the sesame snaps to your loved ones and watch their reactions. We bet the younger ones will find them tasty, but the older folks... their minds will wander back to the good old childhood days.
Homemade sesame snaps like in the old days
Ingredients:
- 200 grams white sesame seeds,
- 140 grams sugar,
- 110 grams honey,
- 1 tablespoon butter,
- pinch of salt.
Preparation:
- Heat a pan over a low temperature. Do not add any fat: the process starts with toasting. Pour the sesame seeds into the pan and heat gently. Remember to stir regularly; the goal is not to burn but to brown them aesthetically. This is probably the most challenging part of preparing sesame snaps.
- Heat the sugar, butter, and honey in a separate pot to create caramel. When it's ready, add the toasted sesame seeds and mix well.
- Spread the mixture on a baking tray lined with parchment paper. Cover the top with another piece of parchment and set aside to cool. Once cooled, cut into portions as you wish, and they're ready. Enjoy!
