The film in question is "Daddio," which features Dakota Johnson and Sean Penn in the leading roles. It contains nudity, sexual content, and strong language. According to TMZ, Qantas Airlines promptly issued a statement after the incident apologising to passengers for the oversight.
Technical issues caused the film to be shown
The problem began with the in-flight entertainment system malfunctioning, which prevented passengers from selecting their films. Consequently, the cabin crew decided to screen a film from a limited list of available titles. Unfortunately, "Daddio", with its mature scenes, " Daddio " proved unsuitable for families travelling with children.
One of the passengers shared their feelings on Reddit, stating, "It featured graphic nudity and lots of sexting – the kind where you could literally read the texts on screen without needing headphones," they complained. The situation continued for almost an hour before the Qantas team changed the film to one more suitable for families.
Qantas airlines issued a statement
The airline officially apologized, acknowledging that the film was "clearly not suitable to play for the whole flight, and we sincerely apologise to customers for this experience." The statement added, "All screens were changed to a family-friendly movie for the rest of the flight, which is our standard practice for the rare cases where individual movie selection isn’t possible."
Although Qantas expressed regret and changed the programme, many travellers felt the emotional impact was lasting. The incident certainly caused discomfort on board, especially among families with children, for whom the unexpected adult content could have been particularly embarrassing. Despite the film change, passengers were noticeably upset by the event.
