Putin's illusory peace: A ploy to seize more of Ukraine
As the President of France has claimed, Moscow might soon present a ceasefire proposal for Ukraine. Yet, this development should not be welcomed with open arms as it is expected to follow the severance of Ukraine's sea connections, ultimately rendering the ceasefire illusory.

Vladimir Putin has recently mandated the enlistment of at least 150,000 new soldiers. This move strongly suggests that Russia is gearing up for a significant assault on Ukraine soon, as reported by "La Repubblica".
During a meeting with his cabinet members, Emmanuel Macron is reported to have mentioned that the Kremlin's primary objective is to capture Odessa and establish a corridor to Transnistria. This strategy would strip Kyiv of its access to the sea, followed by Putin offering a so-called "irresistible ceasefire."
You cannot trust Putin
- We must exercise extreme caution to avoid being duped by such a technical ceasefire. This would merely be a ruse by Moscow to buy time and bolster its military capabilities, a source in Brussels told "La Repubblica". Putin has consistently violated ceasefire agreements outlined in the Minsk Accords, as reported by "La Repubblica".
Other sources have speculated that the potential ceasefire proposed by Moscow could be tabled between July and November.
Putin seeks to exploit the US and EU elections
The commencement of the new term could trigger prolonged discussions over key positions within EU institutions, possibly delaying the establishment of new EU authorities until the start of the next year.
In the interim, Russia would find ample opportunities to sow instability across Europe.
However, one of the main reasons driving the West to hasten its initiatives in recent weeks is that Ukraine must be furnished with arms as quickly as possible. This urgency stems from the need to counter Putin's destruction of the pro-Ukraine argument for support with his proposal for a deceptive ceasefire.
