Puff pastry rolls: The ultimate quick snack for surprise guests

Racing against the clock is a fairly common occurrence in the kitchen, especially when you're cooking for guests coming from afar. During such moments, it's worth having tried-and-true recipes for quick snacks at hand. Today, I want to share one of them—a recipe made with puff pastry.

I admit I reach for puff pastry exceptionally often. And it's not just for preparing sweet treats. This clever invention, which dates back to the 17th century, allows for the creation of various interesting snacks in sweet and savoury flavours. And don't make me choose between the two, as that's a challenge I can't meet.

At one point, I decided I loved puff pastry so much that I should start making a homemade version. If you want to do the same, click here for a tried and true recipe. If not, no worries—I understand. As I mentioned, it's all about being fast. So, to the point: a quick snack made with puff pastry. How do you prepare it? It's straightforward. Besides the main ingredient, you only need cheese and one egg. These tasty rolls will be ready in no time. It takes just 15-20 minutes!

  1. Roll out the dough. The optimal thickness here is about 5 mm.
  2. Crack the egg into a bowl and whisk it. Then, use a brush to spread it over the surface of the puff pastry.
  3. Grate the cheese and spread it over the surface of the dough. Leave an empty strip at the top to seal everything.
  4. Roll up the pastry. You'll find this a breeze if you've ever made homemade sushi.
  5. Cut the rolled pastry into pieces and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush them once more with the beaten egg.
  6. Bake for 15 minutes at 200°C. Done!
