Prince William opens up on royal family's cancer battles
Prince William gave an interview to the BBC, in which he spoke candidly about the harrowing experiences he has faced in recent months. The son of King Charles III discussed the cancer diagnoses that afflicted his father and his wife, the Duchess of Cambridge.
In February 2024, Buckingham Palace announced that King Charles III had begun cancer treatment. Just a few weeks later, the world was informed about the health issues of the Duchess of Cambridge, who had been diagnosed with cancer.
In his conversation with the BBC, the Prince of Wales did not hide the fact that the past few months have been very challenging for him. - Honestly? It’s been dreadful. It’s probably been the hardest year in my life. So, trying to get through everything else and keep everything on track has been really difficult. - he said.
At the same time, he expressed immense pride in how his family managed to deal with all the problems. - "I’m so proud of my wife, I’m proud of my father, for handling the things that they have done. But from a personal family point of view, it’s been brutal." - he added.
Prince William on his father's and wife's illness
Prince William gave the interview during a visit to South Africa, where he attended the Earthshot Prize awards ceremony. In addition to awarding £1 million to each of the five honoured environmental projects, he also shared his thoughts on holding public office and the associated responsibilities.
The Prince of Wales hinted that although greater responsibility is not his favourite, he values the ability to lead initiatives like Earthshot, desiring to use his position to do good.
During his stay in Cape Town, he met with fishermen involved in the Abalobi project, finalists of the Earthshot 2023 award, which focuses on protecting small fishing communities. William stressed that a key role in his life is skilful time management to find a balance between work and family life.
