Pizza reinvented: Sweet potato crust and BBQ chicken delight
I don't know anyone who doesn't like pizza. This Italian classic has firmly established itself in our homes, undergoing various transformations and modifications. Some people love thin crust, while others prefer thick and fluffy. However, in this recipe, the base is not the classic dough but sweet potato.

Pizza has many names. It looks different in the United States, and even the Italians have tons of ideas and recipes for it. If you want to impress your loved ones with a unique treat, go for this one with a sweet potato crust. Instead of classic toppings like mozzarella or salami, it features BBQ sauce, pulled chicken, and bell pepper. It's a delicious departure from the classics, perfect for a family dinner, party snack, or warm supper.
Pizza with a sweet potato crust
Sweet potato is not only a base for fries but also an exciting idea for a pizza crust. Preparing this snack is really quick and very simple. Even someone who hasn't had much experience with Italian delicacies can handle this recipe.
Ingredients:
- 2 medium sweet potatoes,
- ½ teaspoon salt,
- 4 tablespoons BBQ sauce,
- 1 chicken breast fillet - cooked in stock,
- ½ green bell pepper,
- ½ red onion,
- 1 ball of mozzarella in brine,
- 4 tablespoons olive oil.
Instructions:
Step 1. Wash the sweet potatoes thoroughly and prick them, for example, with a toothpick. Place them in an ovenproof dish, drizzle with vegetable oil, and microwave for 20 minutes at 800 Watts.
Step 2. Cook the chicken fillet in stock and shred into smaller pieces using two forks. Cut the bell pepper into thin strips, and slice the onion into thin half-rings.
Step 3. Transfer the baked sweet potatoes to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Carefully cut them in half, cover them with another sheet of parchment paper, and mash them using a pot.
Step 4. Remove the parchment paper. Season the sweet potatoes with salt, spread BBQ sauce, and add chicken, bell pepper, and onion. Place torn mozzarella pieces on top, drizzle with olive oil, and put in the oven preheated to 200°C. Bake for 10 minutes.
Step 5. Garnish with chopped parsley and serve warm. Enjoy your meal!
