Paris police clamp down on prostitution as Olympics approach

TMZ reports that the metropolitan police in Paris have created a special brigade called BRP, which will be responsible, among other things, for patrolling the areas above and monitoring nightclubs. According to reports, special anti-sexual regulations are to be established to help combat pimping.

Representatives of Paris and the local prosecutor's office also assist in this matter, working with the police to implement preventive measures and raise public awareness about the situation.

Interestingly, several non-profit organisations have spoken out on behalf of sex workers ahead of the Olympic Games. They believe that prior repression hurts the health and safety of people providing such services.

France 24 reports that charitable organisations are calling on authorities to pay less attention to sex workers and focus on dismantling criminal groups that they claim rob, rape, and assault them. They also argue that few sex workers have arrived in Paris for the Olympic Games due to the high accommodation costs.
