She was three seconds ahead of the silver medallist, Tigist Assefa from Ethiopia, and fifteen seconds ahead of Kenya's Hellen Obiri.
Over an hour and a half later, the last competitor in this event finished the race. This may be because the 26-year-old is a soldier in the Royal Bhutan Army, stationed in the western part of the country.
It is worth noting that 11 athletes did not finish the marathon.
