"It was an honour to host Viktor Orban and his delightful daughter Flora at Mar-a-Lago. Viktor is a respected leader worldwide. Hungary is known for its strong migration policies and is a secure country, which will continue as long as he leads," Trump shared after the meeting on his Truth Social platform.
Why was Orban's wife not present?
There was curiosity about why the 19-year-old daughter accompanied her father instead of the Hungarian leader's spouse.
"Because Viktor Orban's wife could not join him, his daughter filled in and accompanied him to the meeting with the Trump family," shared Orban's spokesperson, Bertalan Havasi, with the Hungarian media.
When asked if the visit was considered a state visit, the Prime Minister’s representative did not confirm. However, he mentioned that Viktor Orban "will personally cover the expenses of his daughter’s trip, following the rules."
"Prime Minister Viktor Orban visited the United States following an invitation from the former and — we hope — future president of the USA. The trip aimed to reinforce the friendship between Hungary and America" conveyed Havasi.
Hungarian commentators also noted that Flora Orban was seen at Trump's Florida residence sporting a Gucci bag valued at approximately £1,200.
