Novak Djoković in talks with AC Milan for a coaching role amid tennis career challenges
In 2023, Novak Djoković retained his position as the leader of the ATP world rankings. At 36, the Serbian shows no signs of slowing down and has no plans of retiring from his tennis career.

However, the onset of 2024 has shown an increasing number of tennis players finding ways to topple the legendary competitor. During the United Cup, he was unexpectedly beaten by Australian Alex de Minaur, and in the semifinals of the Australian Open, he was vanquished by Italian Jannik Sinner. Consequently, Djoković failed to defend his title and his shot at securing his 11th title in Melbourne was thwarted.
Right now, there's a flurry of Serbian news making rounds in the Italian media. This surge of interest is mainly due to a news report by "La Repubblica," which stated that a few months ago, AC Milan's owner Gerry Cardinale had considered hiring the world-ranking leader as a mental coach.
This information was reportedly obtained from a source close to the club's financial operations. The proposal was conceived at a time when the morale of Milan's players was flagging. Djoković was envisioned as a motivating force, supporting the players with inspiring speeches.
While this might seem unusual considering he’s still an active tennis player, his legendary mental strength is revered globally, making this idea plausible. However, unless the 36-year-old retires, he would not be able to take on any role at the football club.
The Milan owner likely wanted to leverage Djoković's known fandom for the club. He's frequently seen at San Siro cheering for the Rossoneri, even professing that "his heart is red and black."
