Dramatic moments happened in the evening on 19 December at Molde Airport, Norway. The Boeing B737-800 with registration number LN-NIP, operated by Norwegian Airlines, was on domestic flight DY430 from Oslo to Molde.

There were 165 passengers on board. During landing, the aircraft failed to brake in time, skidded off the runway, and stopped dangerously close to the shoreline.

A fortunate end to the landing

Despite the seriousness of the situation, none of the passengers sustained serious injuries. Thanks to the efficiently conducted evacuation, everyone quickly left the aircraft. Short clips from the scene showing the evacuation and rescue services' activities are circulating online.

The cause of the incident was most likely challenging weather conditions. Strong winds and a slippery runway surface significantly hindered a safe landing. As a result, Molde Airport was temporarily closed, and all flights were suspended.

An investigation into the accident is underway

The Norwegian Civil Aviation Authority has already launched an investigation into the accident to examine the detailed circumstances of the incident.

Despite the severity of the situation, the crew's quick reaction and proper procedures prevented a tragedy. This incident serves as a reminder of how crucial safety standards and proper preparation of flight crews are in crisis situations.
