The National Intelligence Service (NIS) of South Korea informed deputies that "the transfer of troops between North Korea and Russia is ongoing."

By December, as many as 11,000 North Korean soldiers may be sent to Russia. Previously, a contingent of 10,000 people was reported.

The NIS reported that there is a possibility of sending part of this personnel, including high-ranking military officers, to the frontline in the conflict with Ukraine.

We are verifying the possibility of deploying part of the North Korean personnel, including high-ranking military officers, to the frontline — cites the Yonhap agency.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte noted on Monday that, according to Alliance data, troops from North Korea were sent to Russia and deployed in the Kursk region, bordering Ukraine.

The intelligence agency noted the difficulties North Korean soldiers have in learning over 100 Russian military terms, such as "take positions" or "fire." It is unclear how communication problems on the battlefield will be resolved.

The NIS also assessed that by purchasing advanced parts and technology from Russia, North Korea is prepared to launch a military reconnaissance satellite, following an unsuccessful attempt in May. According to the agency, Pyongyang may conduct further tests of medium and intercontinental ballistic missiles, and a seventh nuclear test cannot be ruled out after the U.S. presidential elections.

The agency reported that key Russian officials involved in the deployment of North Korean troops were likely on board a Russian plane operating between Moscow and Pyongyang on 23–24 October.
