On Tuesday, May 7, Shuntaro Furukawa, the owner of Nintendo, surprised console enthusiasts with a surprise announcement on social media about a new model and its wait time.

Nintendo is a Japanese company established in 1989, initially making hanafuda cards for Japanese games under the same name. Over the years, Nintendo shifted its focus to console games, establishing itself as a major player in the industry. Its most famous consoles include the Game Boy, Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Nintendo DS, Wii, and Nintendo Switch.

The Nintendo Switch has become an iconic console for the company, beloved for its vast array of both classic and latest games. On Tuesday, May 7, Shuntaro Furukawa, the leader of the Japanese firm, thrilled all console lovers by confirming on social media the development of the Nintendo Switch's successor.

Fans to anticipate the Nintendo Switch successor

Since its debut in 2017, the Nintendo Switch console quickly won over the hearts of many fans, continuing to be highly popular seven years later, with sales surpassing 141 million units. These figures are a testament to the console's enduring appeal.

Nonetheless, the absence of new hardware from Nintendo over seven years is noticeable, especially as competitors release more advanced consoles and games incompatible with the Nintendo Switch. This situation likely motivated Shuntaro Furukawa to introduce a fresh addition to the Nintendo lineup.

Nintendo Switch 2 is on the horizon

"This is Furukawa, President of Nintendo. We will make an announcement about the successor to Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year. It will have been over nine years since we announced the existence of Nintendo Switch back in March 2015. We will be holding a Nintendo Direct this June regarding the Nintendo Switch software lineup for the latter half of 2024, but please be aware that there will be no mention of the Nintendo Switch successor during that presentation" - the president of Nintendo shared on social media.

Fans are speculating on social media that the latest console might launch in 2025, although nothing has been confirmed yet. Everyone is keenly waiting for more updates, which are expected to come from Shuntaro Furukawa, likely through social media platforms.
