Nicola Coughlan's new romance defies age norms in London

It cannot be denied that, even in 2024, double standards still prevail in show business. While relationships between female celebrities and younger partners may still spark controversy (there are many examples: Madonna or Cher), romances between male stars and women half their age are practically a daily occurrence in the industry and don't make much of an impression on anyone.

Despite the high probability of facing unfounded online hate, more and more stars are getting involved with significantly older or younger men. This is exactly what Nicola Coughlan has done, whom you might remember from her role as Penelope in the third season of the Netflix series "Bridgerton."

The 37-year-old actress was spotted on 23 October during an evening date in London with her boyfriend, 24-year-old Jake Dunne. They were photographed as they left the Auld Shillelagh, a pub frequented by well-known figures. They walked hand in hand, engaged in lively conversation.

Coughlan opted for a classic look with a black dress paired with black tights and an oversized amber-coloured jumper. Jake wore dark green cargo trousers, a red and white baseball shirt, and a cap.

You might recognise Jake from the series "Rebel Nell," where he played the role of the demonic Thomas Blancheford. His on-screen partner was Louisa Harland, who co-starred with Nicola in the series "Derry Girls" for several years. It was Harland who introduced Nicola and Jake and arranged their first date.
