"Wednesday," created by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, made its Netflix debut in November 2022. The series focuses on the titular character, a member of the infamous Addams family. While Christina Ricci portrayed her in the movies, Jenna Ortega successfully stepped into the role for the series. In the first season, the macabrely sharp and sarcastic teenager investigates murders, gaining new friends and enemies at Nevermore Academy.
The series was an incredible hit, debuting in first place in 83 countries. It holds the record for the most hours watched in the first week of release among English-language Netflix series - totalling 341 million hours watched by over 50 million households. The fourth season of "Stranger Things" held the previous record with 335 million hours.
Ultimately, "Wednesday" ranks third in the platform's history in terms of viewership within the first 28 days after its premiere, only trailing behind "Stranger Things" and "Squid Game," which hold the first place.
"Wednesday" - when is the second season of the hit?
Given its success, it came as no surprise when Netflix announced there would be a second season. However, fans hoping to see it in 2024 might be disappointed. According to What’s on Netflix, filming for the continuation of "Wednesday" is set to last from April to November this year. It was also announced that the series will be filmed in County Wicklow, located along the coast of the Irish Sea in the eastern part of Ireland. This location was previously used for "Vikings: Valhalla".
Netflix seeks teenagers and adults with "varied ethnic backgrounds" and "unique looks, quirky style, and unusual characteristics". The casting call also mentions twins and triplets.
This suggests that the second season of "Wednesday" will likely premiere around spring 2025. The plot is expected to delve more into the relationship between Morticia and Wednesday. The action will primarily occur within the Addams' residence and draw more from classic horror films, with less emphasis on romantic plots.
