NATO chief calls for continued support for Ukraine and remembers Alexei Navalny
Stoltenberg gave an interview to a journalist from Radio Liberty. The Norwegian politician amplified the "pressing requirement to back Ukraine. To ensure that Russia refrains from additional hostile actions against Ukraine, enabling Ukraine to reclaim more territory".
The NATO Secretary General added that he is aware of the most suitable way to honor the memory of Alexei Navalny. His comment has been broadcast on Twitter by Anton Herashchenko, an advisor to the Ukrainian Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The most appropriate way to honour Navalny is ensuring that Russia doesn't triumph in Ukraine - stated Stoltenberg.
Stoltenberg consistently brings to light that the conflict triggered by Russians in Europe profoundly impacts global geopolitics. The Norwegian tirelessly advocates for heightening support for Ukraine from Europe and the United States.
This was the stance that echoed this time, too. Citing Sweden's example, the NATO Secretary General stated that they had committed to a support package for Ukraine totaling £454 million only this week. This could be seen as applying pressure on the United States.
The good news is that just a few days back, Sweden announced aid amounting to £454 million. This includes combat boats, anti-aircraft defence launchers and a great deal of ammunition - Stoltenberg mentioned in his interview with Liberty Radio.
Bear in mind that the situation regarding aid to Ukraine stands at an impasse in the USA. President Biden urges Congress to authorize a new aid package, which Kyiv has anticipated for a while. Everything is in the congressman's court. However, some Republicans are in opposition.
This is why Stoltenberg perpetuates the remembrance of Alexei Navalny, who was assassinated recently. He aims to paint a clear picture of the Kremlin's brutal politics. And demonstrate the extreme and antidemocratic measures Putin is prepared to resort to in a bid to hold onto power. NATO Secretary General hopes this will catalyze the American Congress into taking action and delivering a precise response.
