Naples residents call for a ban on tourist rentals in the city centre

After Florence, Rome, and Venice, Naples is the next Italian city to raise the issue of short-term rentals of apartments in the city centre.

Residents have had enough and point out that the tourism business, which is based on short-term apartment rentals for tourists, leaves no places where they could live permanently.

For this purpose, they have issued a special petition to the authorities of Naples. They are advocating for a ban on issuing permits for new lodging establishments in the city centre, specifically in the part of the city listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Instead, they are demanding greater availability of apartments for families and students, who complain about Italy's outrageously high rental prices.

We are not waging war against tourism, but we are opposed to unlimited tourism without resident protection, the authors of the petition argued, cited by the portal Interia.

Therefore, they advocate for meticulous control over places listed for short-term rentals. They also announced a campaign accompanying the petition. Posters informing the public about their demands will be hung strategically in the city.
