Moulin Rouge in Paris hosts one of the world's most famous cabarets, crowned by its iconic, globally recognized windmill. Sadly, tourists hoping to capture a photo with this emblematic structure are now met with disappointment.

According to French media, the latticed wings of the Red Mill plummeted to the street below between Wednesday and Thursday night, smashing neon lights and damaging the sign above the entrance. Images circulated online show the "Moulin Rouge" sign now humorously reads "lin Rouge".

This event marks the first of its kind in the cabaret's history, with the windmill's wings having spun for over 130 years.

A destroyed symbol of Paris, yet no injuries sustained

Despite the Moulin Rouge's popularity and its busy location at Montmartre's base, it's fortunate that no injuries were reported.

The AFP agency, referencing service reports, assured there's no risk of further collapse. While the cause remains a mystery, a theatre representative noted that technical checks of the windmill's mechanism occur weekly with no recent issues found. The focus now turns to understanding the damage to this Parisian icon.

A restoration effort for the Red Mill is expected to commence soon, aiming to return its wings to their former glory.
Historically, after a fire consumed the Moulin Rouge in 1915, rebuilding efforts spanned nearly a decade, highlighting the significance and resilience of this beloved landmark.
