Many people naturally fear seas and oceans. The deep, dark, and unexplored are understandably anxiety-inducing, much like the creatures inhabiting them—not just sharks with their massive teeth but also orcas, stonefish, and sea snakes.

The footage that surfaced online serves as a stark warning about aquatic creatures. The video captures the alarming moment when a giant sturgeon attacks a Russian synchronised swimmer, identified as 22-year-old Masha.

This frightening incident occurred in China, specifically at the aquarium in Xishuangbanna Primitive Forest Park. It all unfolded in front of a stunned audience, including children.

Disturbing scenes: mermaid caught in the fish’s jaws

Masha was performing at the Chinese aquarium, dressed as a mermaid. Unexpectedly, she became the victim of a forceful attack by a large sturgeon. The fish grabbed her by the head, almost enclosing her head within its sizeable jaws. Masha managed to free herself from the predator. Although the sturgeon took her goggles, she could swim safely on her own.

Russian media outlets have published photos of her bruised face. Masha suffered significant injuries to her head, neck, and eyes. Unconfirmed reports suggest that the event organiser offered her financial compensation of approximately £80. The video was never intended to be shared online.
