All sources from CNN indicate that Melania Trump will not reside permanently in the White House. During her husband's first term in office, she was also hesitant about the matter. She delayed moving to Washington by a few months, explaining that she wanted to wait until her son, Barron, who was 10 years old at the time, finished the school year.
Where Melania Trump wants to live
Now that Barron is 18 and attending university in New York, Melania Trump plans to spend a significant portion of her time there.
"It was his decision to come here, that he wants to be in New York, study in New York, and live in his home and I respect that. … He’s enjoying his college days. I hope he will have a great experience because his life is very different than any other 18-, 19-year-old child," she said during an interview with Fox News.
Many signs suggest that the First Lady of the USA will mainly commute between New York and Palm Beach, Florida, where she has established herself among close friends over the past few years.
American media continue to emphasize that Trump is setting a new standard. Previously, it only occurred twice that the First Lady did not live in the White House, which was built in 1800.
Is Melania Trump asserting her independence?
Melania Trump is expected to participate in significant events. However, it is worth noting that she recently declined Jill Biden's invitation to the traditional meeting, during which there would be a symbolic power transfer between their husbands in the Oval Office. The reason for her absence at the meeting is said to be prior commitments related to promoting her autobiography titled "Melania."
Could the First Lady want to distance herself from her husband's politics? After all, she was rarely present during Donald Trump's campaign, and in her book, she, among other things, supports the right to abortion, contrary to the new president's beliefs. It seems that, above all, she wants to be independent.
