Matthew Perry's former home narrowly escapes wildfires
The former residence of Matthew Perry in Pacific Palisades miraculously survived the destructive fires ravaging Los Angeles. It was here, over a year ago, that the actor passed away. The latest photos reveal just how close it was to disaster.
The actor's home, located in the exclusive coastal district west of Los Angeles, survived despite the threatening fire in Pacific Palisades, which burned over 22,000 acres of land. The new owner of the property, developer and film producer Anita Verma-Lallian, confirmed on Instagram that the estate is safe, thanks to the vigilance of the residents of nearby properties. They extinguished small fires starting to spread at the back of the villa.
"It's hard to express in words how devastated we are. It has been such a challenging week, but we are incredibly grateful to have found out that our home is intact," wrote Verma-Lallian. She thanked the brave firefighters, wonderful neighbours, and the entire Palisades community for their help, strength, and support during this shocking time.
Verma-Lallian purchased Perry's estate in October last year for 8.5 million dollars.
"Our thoughts remain with all affected by this tragedy, and we hope we can unite to protect and rebuild what has been lost," she added, encouraging followers to support the LAFD Foundation. "Our firefighters work tirelessly, and anything we can give helps support their heroic efforts. The Palisades will always hold a special place in our hearts."
The home of Matthew Perry
Due to the tragic events that took place there, the actor's home attracted significant interest. Matthew Perry, 54, was found dead in his jacuzzi on 28th October 2023. An autopsy revealed he died from "acute ketamine action" after taking the drug in uncontrolled doses.
The last post from the "Friends" star was a photo of him relaxing in the pool in the middle of the night. Following his death, an investigation was launched, revealing the existence of a "widespread underground criminal network" exploiting Perry when he relapsed in autumn 2023, informed prosecutor Martin Estrada during a press conference. Five people were arrested and charged in connection with this case, including two doctors, a supplier, and an acquaintance of the actor.
In a previous Instagram post after purchasing Perry's home, Verma-Lallian promised to honour the legacy of the "Friends" star. "We decided to celebrate the positive aspects of the previous owner's life, his immense talent, and the joy he brought to so many people. The decision to buy the house had nothing to do with the previous owner; we simply fell in love with this house," she wrote, adding that they plan to retain some design elements. "The Batman logo in the pool is definitely staying."
