In the Odesa region, border guards of the Podil Detachment patrolling the Kuchurhan Estuary found a man hiding in the reeds. He was trying to cross to Moldova by sea.

The State Border Guard Service reported this incident. The escapee was a 31-year-old resident of Vinnytsia (a city in central Ukraine) who attempted to swim to the shores of the Transdniestrian region in Moldova.

The man had meticulously planned his illegal route. He tightly packed them in plastic wrap and tape to prevent his personal belongings and documents from getting wet.

Attentive border guards quickly spotted the culprit and detained him. At the end of the journey, the border guards gave the swimmer a ride on a boat, and the attempt to illegally cross the border was noted in the protocol, reads the statement from the Border Guard Service.

As highlighted by the censor.net portal, the man is fined for violating border regime rules under Article 202 of the Code of Administrative Offences.

Ukraine. They are not allowed to leave the country

According to Ukraine's martial law regulations, men aged 18 to 60 are generally not allowed—with a few exceptions—to leave the country, as they might be conscripted into the army.

At the end of last year, the BBC reported in a report based on data regarding illegal border crossings with Poland, Moldova, Romania, Hungary, and Slovakia that nearly 20,000 men had fled Ukraine since the beginning of the war to avoid conscription.
