Macron emphasised that EU countries should avoid individual actions in relations with the USA – as communicated by the French government representative.
According to information from the French Ministry of Armed Forces, a phone conversation between the defence ministers of France and Germany, Sébastien Lecornu and Boris Pistorius, is scheduled to take place later that day.
Actions for a "more sovereign Europe"
Earlier that day, the French president revealed that he had conducted talks with the German Chancellor, Olaf Scholz, regarding actions for a "more sovereign" Europe and cooperation with the USA while defending European interests and values.
"We will work towards a more united, stronger, more sovereign Europe in this new context. By cooperating with the United States of America and defending our interests and our values," – he wrote on platform X.
Macron posted this comment shortly after extending his congratulations to Donald Trump as the winner of the US presidential elections, even before the final results were announced. Scholz and many other world leaders also congratulated Trump.
