An unidentified odour that appeared in the galley was the reason for an emergency landing on Monday evening on the Greek island of Rhodes for a Lufthansa Airbus A330-300 flight, a spokesperson for the German airline announced.
The suspicious smell, which could indicate an electrical short circuit, prompted the Lufthansa pilots flying from Frankfurt am Main to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates to make an emergency landing on the island of Rhodes.
Sudden landing on Rhodes
There were 189 passengers and 11 crew members on board.
All safely exited the aircraft, which was immediately subjected to technical examinations.
Passengers were accommodated in a hotel at the carrier's expense and will continue their flight to Dubai on Tuesday aboard a replacement aircraft.
