The latest military-conducted tests of the ER GMLRS missile mark the culmination of a trial process, verifying the range and accuracy of the new ammunition. Trials conducted at the White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico bring closer the decision to start mass production of the new missiles.

The ER GMLRS (ER – extended range) is a rocket projectile, work on which began back in 2017.

In terms of dimensions, it is consistent with the previous version of the GMLRS missile and can be launched from the same launch containers as the older 227 mm missiles, of which more than 60,000 units have been produced so far.

A key advantage of the new missile is the range extended to about 150 kilometres, and – as the manufacturer informs – improved accuracy and the ability to perform more abrupt manoeuvres. At the beginning of the trial process about the new capabilities, Gaylia Campbell, representing the Lockheed Martin corporation, said:

The new missiles could go to the current users of HIMARS. This includes Poland with HOMAR-A, which has already received approval from the State Department to purchase up to 532 packages of ER GMLRS missiles.
