Kyiv pushes for second peace summit as US elections loom
Bloomberg reports that Kyiv is seeking a second peace summit with Russia before the November presidential elections in the United States. The agency emphasizes that Ukraine is concerned about the possible return of Donald Trump to the White House.
Bloomberg discussed the meeting as a continuation of the June talks in Geneva. 93 countries attended the summit in Switzerland, but Russia did not send representatives.
Now - as Bloomberg reports - Ukraine is also keen for Russians to participate in the peace summit.
Bloomberg argues that the push to organise a peace summit before the November presidential elections in the US indicates that Ukraine fears the return of Donald Trump to the White House.
It is known that Kyiv is concerned that Trump may not be as willing to help as Joe Biden has been so far.
Western officials point out an essential condition - such talks must be carefully organised with clearly defined goals and expectations.

Meanwhile, Russia's position is clearly defined. The Kremlin does not intend to participate in the second peace summit on Ukraine. "We know the intentions of the Kyiv regime and its Western curators to 'rehabilitate' after the failed peace summit in Switzerland and to try to organise a similar event," commented Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin in an interview with Ria Novosti.
"We do not accept such ultimatums and will not participate in such 'summits'," said Galuzin, calling the idea for another peace conference a "manifestation of deceit."
