Many phenomena in the world cannot be logically explained: crop circles, UFOs, mysterious disappearances of people or objects, and cats' love for boxes. Owners of independent furballs go out of their way to provide the best conditions for them. They buy expensive scratching posts, modern, self-cleaning litter boxes, and high-quality food.
But what do cats love the most? Boxes, in which purchased items come. The internet is flooded with pictures and videos of small predators playing in boxes or treating them as the most comfortable places to sleep.
An American couple accidentally mailed their cat
It's a worldwide phenomenon for cats. The same was true for a kitten named Galena, who resides in Utah, United States. The animal's owners make sure it does not go outside. The situation changed on April 10, 2023, at around 2 p.m. GMT, when Carrie Clark noticed her kitten was not home.
She immediately began searching. The family posted flyers around the city, and Clark posted on a local Facebook group, writing: "Galena, our super shy indoor cat escaped today. [...] She’s a part of our family and has never been gone this long before."
A week later, Carrie Clark received a surprising message: Galena's chip had been located in Los Angeles. At first, the family thought it was an error, but it turned out that the cat was indeed in the City of Angels.
The cat was discovered by Amazon employees
Brandy Hunter, an Amazon employee in a California warehouse, posted on Facebook that his colleagues found a cat in a shipment. It turned out that Galena had sneaked into the package that Carrie Clark returned to the company. The cat's owner immediately boarded a plane to pick up her adventurous pet. Thanks to a small hole in the box, Galena survived in the box for a week of travel.
After being found by Amazon employees, Galena was transported to a veterinarian, who scanned the microchip. Surprisingly, besides losing weight, Galena is in great condition.
In the box, Galena traveled from Utah to Los Angeles. The owners estimate that the traveler covered around 1,300 kilometers.
