John Kirby, spokesperson for the US National Security Council, urged Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday to refrain from commenting on the American electoral process and from expressing preferences for any candidates.

Kirby's firm stance was presented in response to Putin's comments about Russia's 'support' for Kamala Harris, the current Vice President of the United States and a candidate in the upcoming November presidential elections in the USA.

We would greatly appreciate it if Mr. Putin would...stop talking about our election, and...stop interfering in it, emphasised John Kirby.

The National Security Council spokesperson also wished that Russia cease any form of interference in the American electoral process. Putin's comments about Kamala Harris were made at an economic forum in Vladivostok, where the Russian president noted that Joe Biden, by recommending his voters to vote for Harris, had made her his favourite so Russia would also support her.

Putin also mentioned Harris's expressive laughter as a sign that 'everything is fine with her'. In his view, this could suggest a lesser tendency to impose sanctions on Russia, in contrast to Donald Trump's actions.

The Kremlin spokesman firmly denies accusations of interference

Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin spokesman, responded to the American accusations. He firmly denied the allegations that Russia had interfered in any way in the American electoral process.

Few people believe these assurances, especially in the face of the US prosecutor's accusations about a broad campaign conducted by the Kremlin. The TV station RT, accused of violating the Foreign Agents Registration Act, is at the centre of the operation. The station allegedly paid American columnists and influencers for sharing and promoting content portraying Russia in a favourable light.
