Jarred delights: Dining in style on your winter getaway

Going on a winter break is now one of the few opportunities to see snow. Although most of the country is already witnessing signs of spring, the mountains' ski slopes operate at full speed. Those yearning for more snow are heading to Austria and Italy for their holidays. After an intense day on the slopes, nothing is as satisfying as a warm homemade dinner. To save time and money on holiday, consider preparing delicious, ready-made meals in jars.

Few people think about packing dinners in jars when preparing for a summer holiday. The abundance of seasonal vegetables and fruits, alongside the urge to sample local culinary specialties, encourages dining in restaurants. However, it's different during winter breaks. After numerous hours spent on the slopes, it's comforting to relax in a cabin or apartment. A meal ready in five minutes is a true relief.

what to take on a winter break in jars?

Vegetable, legume, or meat sauces are ideal for a quick, warming dinner during winter. A one-litre jar can accommodate portions for 3-4 people. For such a dish, you only need to cook rice, pasta, or grains. Jarred soups, like chicken broth, tomato, or cucumber soup, are also excellent. A hot, nourishing broth has the added advantage of being suitable for taking in a thermos to the slopes.

How to prepare broth in a jar?

A vegetable broth without meat is most suitable for the slopes. It's tasty, aromatic, and perfect for drinking. Cook the broth with fresh vegetables and then pour it into clean, sterilised jars. Seal and pasteurise for 20 minutes in a pot of boiling water or in the oven at 120°C.

If you wish to take chicken broth with you, pasteurise the jar twice. This rule applies to all meat preserves.

Breton beans - a universal dish for a trip

During winter trips, stews and one-pot meals, such as Breton beans, work well. Both the vegetarian and meat versions are hearty meals that quickly replenish calories lost on the slopes. You can serve beans during a break between outdoor activities or for a full English breakfast before heading out to ski, snowboard, or sled. Our Polish beans also taste wonderful when served with sausages and fried eggs.

Bolognese sauce - a jar meal the whole family loves

Another idea for a quick jarred meal during a winter break is the classic Bolognese pasta sauce. With onion, minced meat, and tomato sauce, this dish can not only be quickly served on a trip but also efficiently prepared at home. It's perfect for those who want to save on meals during travel without spending too much time on home preparations. For Bolognese sauce, remember to perform vandalisation (triple pasteurisation at 24-hour intervals).

Leczo, a hearty vegetarian meal

For travel, all types of vegetable dishes and stews, such as lezzo, are ideal. To prepare a jarred dish, sauté chopped onion, bell pepper, and courgette in a pan. Add tinned tomatoes and simmer with spices. To make the dish more filling, add red beans. Reheat the jarred meal in a pot or microwave. Serve with bread or rice.

A warming Indian-style dinner

The final suggestion is Indian cuisine dishes with delicious, aromatic sauces. You can prepare an entire hearty meal in one pot. Prepare a curry with vegetables or chicken tikka masala. Serve the dish in a creamy sauce with Indian naan bread or a tortilla. Use packaged products from the shop to have everything ready in 5 minutes.
