The undesirable layer and characteristic "eyes" often result from using particularly fatty meat. This can also be a sign of high-quality meat, as seen with broth made from free-range chicken. Naturally, when "eyes" appear on the surface, they are not harmful—the separation of fat is a normal part of the cooking process. However, some individuals prefer to avoid the oily sheen.

Many of our traditional soups include meat, which can lead to excessive fat content. Reducing the calories doesn't require switching to a vegetable soup. Learn how to tackle this effortlessly without compromising the flavour.

A kitchen trick for excess fat in soup

Most of us instinctively reach for a spoon to manually skim off excess fat. However, there's a more effective method. On her Instagram an influence shared an ingenious tip for removing excess fat from soup using only a ladle and ice cubes.

Here's what you need to do:

1. Begin by filling the ladle with ice cubes.

2. Next, gently touch the surface of the soup with the ladle, ensuring the ice doesn't fall into the soup—merely submerge the ladle and stir gently.

3. After 30 seconds of moving the ladle in circles, you'll easily collect the fat that adheres to it.

4. If needed, repeat the process until you've removed the desired amount of fat.
