Fleischerei Holzapfel is a company from Thuringia that specialises in the production of cold cuts and sausages. It has been in the market for over 200 years but recently declared bankruptcy.

The local newspaper "Thüringer Allgemeine" reports that the company is insolvent, which will result in the closure of all eight branches in Thuringia and Saxony-Anhalt. The production plant in the town of An der Schmücke will also cease operations.

Mass layoffs in Germany

"According to the trustees, the insolvency is mainly due to the sharp increase in raw material prices and a significant drop in demand. The production plant and butcher shops belonging to Holzapfel have been facing financial problems for some time, which are exacerbated by the continuous rise in costs," emphasises portalspozywczy.pl.

Soaring energy prices, which drive inflation, have also impacted the company's condition. Approximately 80 people will lose their jobs.

Since the beginning of the year, many companies have decided to cut several tens of thousands of jobs. The reasons for the layoffs in Germany include energy costs, labour costs, and economic transformation.
