Three popular Greek islands among tourists were left without power from Thursday night to Friday. One reason was the very high demand for electricity due to the large number of visitors.

The islands of Folegandros, Ios, and Sikinos in the Aegean Sea experienced power outages. According to the eKathimerini portal, the lack of access to electricity began on Thursday evening and lasted until 1:30 a.m. on Friday.

No power in Greece: three islands suffered

The islands were left without power due to a very high demand for electricity because of the large number of guests and high temperatures.

Two of them, Folegandros and Sikinos, have already restored power. However, the situation on Ios is different—there, the power will be intermittently turned off until the problem is ultimately resolved.

Underwater medium voltage cables that supply power to these islands were laid decades ago and are now unable to meet the growing energy demand. The cables supplying power to the smaller islands run from the island of Paros, which is connected to mainland Greece's electrical grid.
